Rug Twining I

9:00 AM - 12:45 PM
Gary Byker Memorial Library of Hudsonville
Children's Program Room

Learn how to twine a rag rug on Friday, June 9, from 9 am to 1 pm using a set of queen or king sized sheets or about 10 yards of cotton material that the students provide themselves.

In this class the students will be shown how to rip their material into strips suitable for both the warp and the weft of the 24" x 36" peg loom.  We'll show them how to join the strips, twine both left and right and around corners and last, how to finish up and remove the rug from the loom.  Students will take home their loom and be given a month to finish their rug and return the loom.

If at any point they need help, especially for finishing, they can call the library for an appointment with Melissa.

This is a free class with a limit of 6.  Ages 16 and up.   Note that the class starts at 9 am, before the library is open, so they will have to ring the doorbell to let us know when they arrive.

Students who wish to use denim from old jeans for their rug must bring at least two pairs of jeans with them and we'll show them how to cut them up and provide them with suitable warp for $3.  They may also purchase ready made balls of denim strips from us for $3/ball.  (You'll need 12 pairs of jeans in all or 12 balls).  Call Melissa for any questions at 669-1255.

Sew a Humpty Dumpty Toy

10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Gary Byker Memorial Library of Hudsonville
Library Lower level
Make this adorable stuffed toy for someone you love!  The "egg" is separate and actually tips out of the suit to fall down and features a "crack" on its bottom.  You can put it back together again over and over!

All of the supplies and materials are provided as part of a $20 kit.  You will just need to bring a sewing machine (or ask to use one of ours), and some basic sewing notions such as scissors, pins, seam rippers, etc.  Some hand sewing is involved.  The faces are all pre-embroidered..  There will be some choices as to color of suit and substitutions can be made for the color already in the kit.

Questions, call Melissa at 616-669-1255 x 5
